On 24th April 2019, YAE chair Dr Mangala Srivinas and Vice Chair Dr Toma Susi attended the official opening of Academia Europaea’s 5th Knowledge Hub which took place at Tbilisi State University in the presence of the Georgian Prime Minister, Mamuka Bakhtadze.
The collaboration agreement between Academia Europaea and Tbilisi State University was signed by the President of Academia Europaea, Sierd Cloetingh MAE, and by the Rector (President) of Tbilisi State University, George Sharvashidze MAE. The first event organized by the Tbilisi Hub, an AE Thematic Workshop, took place on 25th April. Following a comprehensive account of the achievements of Tbilisi State University by the Rector, there were sessions on Research Policy & Networking as well as presentations on the activities of the Barcelona and Cardiff Hubs and the plans for the new Tbilisi Hub. Dr Mangala Srinivas gave a presentation on the role of Young Academies in Europe, while Dr Susi talked about the cutting edge of materials science.
